A Little About Food Babbles

So… I’m just a girl with a passion for good food. I am a mostly stay-at-home-mom, part-time paramedic, baker, and amateur photographer. This blog is a food journal and combines three things I truly love… food, photography and writing. I love to cook and create. I especially love baking. Most importantly, I love to eat! I want to share my love of all these things with you. It makes me a better cook and has given me a whole new perspective.

Since starting my food journal, I’ve learned new techniques and started to challenge myself to try things I’ve never done before. I’ve always loved food and baking, writing and photography but until now I never put it all together. Food Babbles has become the tool to inspire me to challenge myself and try new things. This is my outlet to document the successes as well as my snafus.

Sometimes the things I create come out great. Other times, well… there are some mishaps but I’ll share those with you too. I’m only human! Either way, I enjoy it and hope you will too! So here are sweet culinary delights from my talented yet dangerously klutzy hands so obviously not bred to work with sharp knives and hot ovens. I’d love to hear from you!! Throughout my posts you’ll hear mention of many of the same people over and over so let me introduce you to everybody else around here!

Mike (my husband) ~ 

Yep, he’s pretty hot stuff!! Mike is my husband of 4 years. He’s my biggest fan and always has my back. Mike is actually the reason Food Babbles even exists. He encouraged me to share my baking with all of you and even came up with the name. Mike wrangles the kids up so that I can have the time to bake and write. Without his help and support, I would get nothing accomplished.

Maddy ~ 

Madelyn is my 2 year old daughter and quite the handful! She’s strong willed, fiercely independent and so very sweet. She’s also incredibly funny and just overflowing with personality. She’s my chief taster for sure. She samples everything while it’s still warm and lets me know if it’s worthy of posting or not. These days she’s finally at an age where she can start helping me bake. For now, she’ll pour ingredients into a bowl for me. I hope as she grows, she enjoys baking and cooking as much as I do.

Molly ~ 

Molly is the newest addition to the family. She’s already shaping up to be a little baker 😉 

HB ~ 

Hania is my oldest daughter, who at 14 years old is growing into such a beautiful, talented young lady. HB is her abbreviated nickname, from Hania Bean. When she was a baby and was sleeping, she would curl up in such a way that she looked like a little bean. As she’s gotten older, we have abbreviated it since she is now a teenager and being called “Hania Bean” by your mom is just not cool. 😉 HB has definitely got the cooking gene. She loves making dinner as well as baking. She’s always helping me as well as coming up with some great ideas of new things we can make.

The In-Laws ~ 

My in-laws share the title of “Chief Taster” with Maddy. They reap the benefits of all the Food Babbles deliciousness and are always there to give me an honest opinion. They’re also always there for us. They’re a huge help to both Mike and I. 

My Dad ~ 

This is my dad! 🙂 I credit a good majority of my interest in cooking to him. I have so many vivid memories of my time growing up and cooking with him. My dad is a wonderful cook! He’s also the one who always made sure I gave new things a try even if I insisted I didn’t like it without so much as smelling what was put in front of me. My dad always taught me to work hard for the things I want and didn’t just hand me things which now as an adult, I appreciate more than he could possibly know.

My Mom ~ 

My mother definitely gets credit for my sweet tooth and my incredible love of ice cream! My mother can fire down some ice cream. Growing up my mother always cooked dinner for us, every night and I remember sitting in the kitchen with her, taking it all in and helping too. She made me appreciate the importance of family dinner. Each night we all put aside busy lives and sat down together to eat and connect. Now, I do that with my own family and it’s one of my favorite times of the day.

Nana ~

My grandmother is one of the most amazing women I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Patient and kind, opinionated and always there to give you good advice whether you want it or not sometimes, and that’s a good thing. She is a person hugely responsible for shaping me into the woman that I am today and I love her dearly for it.

Mike (my best friend) ~ 

My very closest friend, Mike and I have worked together at every single job we’ve each had since we were 18 years old. We started out as volunteers at an ambulance squad then both became ER techs at the same hospital. Next we both got hired at the municipal ambulance service where we would work together as partners for over 10 years. Sadly, a few years ago we actually took separate routes in our lives for the first time in our 17 year friendship. He became a federal law enforcement officer while I decided to become a (mostly) stay at home mom, working as a medic only a few times a month. Fortunately, even though life has taken us in different directions, he’s remained a paramedic as well and we still get to work together at least once or twice a month. Other than our shared passion for medicine, we both are food enthusiasts who really appreciate and enjoy cooking and trying new things.

    Great blog you’ve got going, more sweets than i usually go for but then you have always been a sweet kid.
    Have you done one on grandpa’s oatmeal pancakes? good stuff but i don’t have the original recipe, i know your dad does but i usually don’t follow them anyway.
